NAIMA Partners in Training Initiatives
NAIMA and its member companies work with many organizations to assure that fiber glass, rock wool and slag wool insulation are installed correctly to maximize the performance of the building or mechanical system as well as to meet building codes, energy codes and OSHA regulations. ASHRAE Mechanical Insulation Training CourseRolling the dice every time you spec mechanical insulation? Don't leave performance to chance! Take this ASHRAE hands-on training course. 7 PHUs, 7 CEUs and 7 AIA LUs. Cost: $360 for ASHRAE Members, $460 for Non-Members. Lunch and software included. January 27, 2007 ASHRAE Winter Meeting Register by January 5 Due to hands on nature of this course, we are limited to 30 participants. Sign up today! Fibrous Glass Duct Board - Duct Instruct ProgramDuct Instruct is the official new name of the Train the Trainer Program. NAIMA’s Fiber Glass Duct Board Duct Instruct Program is a comprehensive duct fabrication and installation training program. It is designed to train the individuals who are responsible for training HVAC mechanics and technicians in the proper application, fabrication and installation of fiber glass duct board systems. The goal is to have fiber glass duct construction become one of the basic building blocks for completion of the typical HVAC technician course Two different trainings are available under the Duct Instruct program: Duct Instruct and Duct Construct:

The National Insulation Training Program is offered by the National Insulation Association (NIA). It is a one-of-a-kind, two-day training program designed to educate attendees on how to choose the right insulation system for the job. The objective is for attendees to acquire a working knowledge of insulation and insulation systems design that help avoid costly mistakes that result in system failures and injury of plant personnel. The program incorporates a number of practical exercises that provide real insights into insulation technologies. And, students get to see first hand the range of products and specification tools currently on the market, including NAIMA’s 3E Plus Insulation Thickness Software Program.
Training modules include:
Basic Insulation Science |
System Design and Materials |
Insulation Thickness Determination |
General Insulation System Installation Considerations |
The Specification Process |

The National Insulation Association’s (NIA) Insulation Energy Appraisal Program is a 2-day course that teaches students how to perform an insulation energy appraisal on plant or facility piping and equipment systems. During the course, students learn how to:
Determine the optimal insulation thickness and corresponding energy and dollar savings using NAIMA 3E® Plus Insulation Thickness Software Program |
Interview customers to gather information needed for an accurate appraisal |
Conduct a facility walk-through |
Determine the amount of greenhouse gases saved through the use of insulation |
Analyze and complete an appraisal spread sheet |
Complete a final customer report |
Students can receive certification as an energy appraiser after passing an examination.

The NAIMA Product Stewardship Program is a reaffirmation of NAIMA and its members’ commitment to promote the safe handling of fiber glass, rock wool, and slag wool products. The manufacture and use of fiber glass, rock wool and slag wool is an important component of the nation’s economy, providing energy-saving insulation products that not only make homes and buildings more comfortable, but also reduce pollution, protect the environment and promote energy efficiency. Fiber glass, rock and slag wool products are safe to manufacture, install and use when recommended work practices are followed. Consistent with this fact, NAIMA has established a renewed Product Stewardship Program, which embodies the components of the earlier OSHA-NAIMA Health and Safety Partnership Program. The HSPP was a comprehensive eight-year partnership with OSHA, which NAIMA completed in May 2007, and now NAIMA incorporates safe work practices, training materials, exposure database, and other HSPP features into NAIMA’s Product Stewardship Program. Visit the NAIMA literature library Product Stewardship Section.
NAIMA’s Health and Safety Partnership Program (HSPP) is a cooperative, voluntary program for worker protection developed jointly by NAIMA and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Insulation Association (NIA) and the Insulation Contractors Association of America (ICAA).
The program is a voluntary effort by industry to promote enhanced work practices among insulation manufacturers, insulation contractors and other users of fiber glass, rock wool and slag wool products. Part of the HSPP duties assumed by NAIMA is the sponsorship of training sessions to help educate workers and employers about the work practices. In addition to formal training sessions provided by NAIMA, HSPP Training materials including a video and literature are available free of charge. Visit the NAIMA literature library Health & Safety Section.
