NAIMA Honors Idaho’s Hansen-Rice with Quality Award

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — (Oct. 30, 2007) — U.S. general contractor Hansen-Rice of Nampa, Idaho was named the 2007 winner of the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) I.Q. Award for quality and best practices in metal building construction. The award was presented to Hansen-Rice co-owners Burke Hansen and John Rice at a special presentation during the MetalCon International Conference on Oct. 4, 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The NAIMA I.Q. Award honors metal building contractors committed to insulation quality, best practices, and achieving the highest standards of energy efficiency through the use of NAIMA 202-96® fiber glass metal building insulation—a product specifically designed to meet or exceed energy standards and to deliver superior energy efficiency.

According to Charles Cottrell, vice president, technical services at NAIMA, “Being successful in the metal building industry requires quality products and a dedication to delivering long-term value for building owners and investors. NAIMA 202-96 fiber glass insulation provides the highest levels of energy efficiency, interior comfort and safety. The I.Q. Award is given to outstanding builders who include 202-96 insulation as part of their overall commitment to excellence.”

Hansen-Rice is a nationwide general contracting company focused primarily on industrial, food processing, agricultural and commercial construction. The company builds approximately 30 metal buildings each year including manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and food processing facilities. What sets the company apart according to John Rice is that, “We are a design build company with an in-house design group. We self-perform structural steel erection as well as install the metal building insulation, and metal roofing and siding. We have a sister company, GEM Buildings that is a metal building manufacturer. It provides structural design, engineering, fabrication and integration of all the steel components into a single system.”

Hansen-Rice attributes its success to the principles the company was founded on 24 years ago. “We do what we say we are going to do for our clients and build strong relationships,” adds Rice. “Customers are at the center of our business and the fact that we are most proud of is that 75 percent plus of our business comes from repeat customers.”

Hansen-Rice’s philosophy is to provide the best value for its clients, and a good insulation system is an important part of that value. The company uses 202-96 fiber glass insulation exclusively for its metal building projects. “We use materials which we think are the best for our clients’ projects,” said Burke Hansen. “We believe that 202.96 insulation is the best application for our metal building clients, and for the insulation performance of the building. It is a very effective insulation product that allows us to achieve the R-values we need in order to meet the requirements of an energy efficient building.”

Using 202-96 insulation has been a big part of Hansen-Rice’s business. “It is a cost-efficient insulation system that performs well in metal buildings,” said John Rice.  “With the majority of our business coming from repeat clients, it is very important that we build a quality product and 202-96 insulation is part of that commitment to quality.  Our customers understand that a well-built building as well as a well-insulated building is important to re-sale value.”

“Energy conservation is becoming more and more important to our customers,” adds John Rice. “With building projects underway around the country, we are finding that in many jurisdictions it is now necessary to meet local energy codes prior to receiving a building permit. In our energy code compliance review, we refer to the NAIMA guide ASHRAE 90.1 Compliance for Metal Buildings for information.”

Mike McLain, general manager of Bay Insulation, MBI Division, is the laminator who nominated Hansen-Rice for the IQ Award. “Hansen-Rice is totally committed to providing the best quality product for their customers,” McLain says. “They have been a top five metal building contractor for the last five years. They know the benefits of 202-96 insulation and understand the value of a good insulation system. They share the facts with their customers and try to provide them the best value and the right products for their projects. Their crews are well trained and know how to work with fiber glass insulation.  They deserve the award.”

As the winner of the NAIMA I.Q. Award, Hansen-Rice will be featured in a national advertisement in a leading metal building publication. “We are proud to promote the accomplishments of the company,” notes Cottrell. “By exhibiting the highest levels of professionalism in its building practices, it helps create success for the metal building industry and all companies who strive for excellence in serving this market.”

Now in its 25th year of operation, Hansen-Rice employs 150 people and is licensed to do business in all 50 states. For additional information about the company, call 208-465-0200 or visit www.Hansen-Rice.com.
