NAIMA Sponsors Home By Design Showhouse

Green Home Project Emphasizes Energy Efficiency and Design Elegance to 300,000 Home Builders and Designers

Alexandria, VA (January 20, 2004) -- The North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) is a sponsor of the Home by Design Showhouse, a unique green building exhibit that will be seen by thousands of home builders, designers and visitors at the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. The Showhouse is on display at the Stardust Hotel during the National Association of Home Builders' International Builders Show and throughout January. Fiber glass insulation is prominently featured in the Showhouse attic and floor spaces to demonstrate its role in providing energy efficiency and thermal comfort.

Sarah Susanka, an award-winning architect, designed the Showhouse with Steve Easley, a building science consultant, to create an achievable dream home that is both elegant and environmentally responsible. Easley selected fiber glass insulation for the floors and attic spaces because it increases the overall energy efficiency of the Showhouse.

"Fiberglass is a time tested product that decreases heating and cooling costs and provides many attributes which make it a solid choice in green building design," said Easley. "Not only does insulation create a more comfortable indoor environment by increasing thermal comfort and reducing noise throughout the home. It also supports the basic tenets of sustainable design and construction to protect future generations."

NAIMA is also a sponsor of Sustainable Buildings Industry Council's (SBIC) seminar series for architects and builders on green building. The next seminar will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the Home by Design Showhouse in Las Vegas. The purpose of the seminar is to educate those wanting to design and build a more energy-efficient, sustainable product on what constitutes a green, high-performance home.
