NAIMA Recognized for its Support of Energy Codes Partnership in the Northeast

Alexandria, VA - November 12, 2001 – At its regional workshop in Plainsboro, New Jersey, the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) recognized the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association for its efforts in promoting building codes that encourage energy efficiency. NEEP is a nonprofit regional organization founded in 1996 to increase and coordinate energy efficiency efforts in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, and the District of Columbia.

Susan Coakley, NEEP’s Executive Director, presented NAIMA with the 2001 Building Energy Codes Project Trade Ally of the Year Award. "Thanks to the work of our partner organizations" said Ms. Coakley, " we are seeing real progress in updating energy codes in the Northeast and ensuring that these codes are supported for effective implementation. NAIMA understands that promoting strong building energy codes is necessary in achieving increased energy efficiency in homes, buildings and industry. We appreciate NAIMA’s leadership and dedication in this effort."

Specifically, the award recognizes NAIMA for the following:

  • Providing leadership in support of strong national model energy codes, including NAIMA’s leadership role in the Responsible Energy Code Alliance;
  • Providing policy and technical support for updated state residential building energy codes in the Northeast, including providing public comments in support of updated code requirements in several key states;
  • Providing a grant for the development of regional residential energy code and advanced construction training materials, including the Northeast States Residential Builder Training Program.

"NAIMA shares NEEP’s commitment to achieving improved energy efficiency within the energy code process" said Ken Mentzer, NAIMA’s President and CEO. "Together, we have accomplished a great deal, particularly in the area of energy code training in the Northeast. NAIMA is honored to receive this award and we look forward to continuing our work with NEEP and its partners."

Two other organizations were also recognized for their contributions to NEEP. The Massachusetts Board of Building Regulations and Standards was awarded the State Agency Award, and National Grid received NEEP’s Energy Efficiency Program Administrator of the Year Award.
